I’m delighted that the new batch of Moonbroch has arrived with us. This fluffy blend of kid mohair and silk has quickly become a favourite. The yarn works beautifully on its own and also combines well with other yarns for a more gentle haze.
We've dyed eight rainbow colours - the colours that made up the original Pride flag.
The colours will be available individually - and as a limited number of mini skein sets.
The mini skeins each have 5 grams and 42 meter of yarn - so 40 grams and 332 meters of yarn per set.
I love how the silk core of this yarn gleams through the mohair haze.
The large skeins each have 50 grams and 420 meres of yarn. That means they can often make great substitutes for 4ply or fingering yarns in shawls. Although the Moonbroch yarn is much finer the mohair haze helps create a fabric that's open but stable rather than just being loose.
As well as a rainbow of colours we've dyed a couple of grey shades.
As it's pride month usually we'd donate a proportion of sales to Stonewall UK. They're a brilliant charity who do a great deal of good work. This year we're going to do things a little differently. We're going to donate 50% of the proceeds from the Moonbroch mini skeins, and colours shown above to charity - so £11 pounds from each big skein or set of mini skeins we sell. We're going to split that money equally between Stonewall UK and BLMUK (Black Lives Matter UK)
We've chosen to donate to the UK arm of both charities as both racism and homophobia are still rife in the UK. It's not a problem that only exists elsewhere.
Donating 50% of the proceeds from each sale means we cover the cost of materials, tax and VAT and contribute to studio costs. That means we can continue to support charities on an ongoing basis.
