» Listings for November 2019

  1. I’m pretty sure that no one has escaped the Black Friday emails. Those ever so tempting offers that aren’t all that they seem ( like finding that the oven we’d been looking at has just been increased in price so that a Black Friday discount can be applied? That’s not a great deal, and that’s a business that I won’t buy from again)

One thing that Black Friday does well is promote a sense of missing out. It makes it seem like there are amazing deals to be had and they’re going to vanish if you don’t grab them straight away. If there’s something you’ve been waiting for then it’s possible you might get it for a little less with a Black Friday deal – and that’s great. Money is tight for lots of people and savings help.

We wanted to do something that went against the “grab it now because it’s a bargain” mentality of Black Friday. So we’re celebrating White Friday instead.

Until midnight tonight (29th November) we’re donating 50% of all our sales to charity. That’s 50% of everything we sell, whether it’s yarn clubs, bags, yarn, show samples or goods already in the sale shop. So you don’t get offered the bargain of a lifetime – but you do get to know that two awesome charities will benefit.

The money will be split between two charities.

The Trussell Trust are behind many of the UK foodbanks. Their mid year round up shows the need for emergency food parcels up by 23% – read their report here

You can donate direct to the Trussell Trust here

The second charity we’re supporting is Refuge. Refuge supports women and children experiencing domestic abuse. One hideous result of austerity measures is that refuges have closed. There’s less support available at a time it’s needed more than ever. You can find out about Refuge here – and they have some brilliant resources about recognising abuse and getting help.

  2. Earlier in the year we dyed up some Superhero Genes colourways. These were sold to raise funds for Genetic Disorders UK.

The names for these colours come from my lovely friend Scully, and are inspired by her brother Adam who died earlier this year. Scully and her mum have asked that money raised from this yarn goes to Jeans for Genes Day.

Jeans for Genes Day is the annual fundraising campaign for Genetic Disorders UK, the national charity that supports individuals and families affected by a genetic disorder.

Monies raised on Jeans for Genes Day fund the work of the charity and provide grants to organisations for projects that aim to transform the lives of children with genetic disorders.

We’ve now added two new options to the lineup – Superhero Genes Splodge and Superhero Genes Rainbow mini skeins.

    Superhero Genes Rainbow mini skeins

We’ll be donating 50% of the purchase price of these yarns to Genetic Disorders UK. The remaining 50% covers the yarn costs, VAT, tax and dye costs. In turn that means we can make more of these yarns available and hopefully raise more money for this charity.

If you’d like to donate to Jeans for Genes Day you can do so here

If you love seeing money go to good causes then it gets even better – until midnight on Friday we’re donating 50% of all sales to charity as part of our White Friday plan (which is that Black Friday discounts aren’t for us, and we’d sooner give money to Refuge and the Trussell Trust).

That 50% will be on all sales across the website – so clubsyarnsshow samplesbags – and even everything already discounted on the sale page. We’ll be donating 50% of the proceeds of the Superhero yarns too – which means that every penny we take for them goes to charity. That feels like the perfect Black Friday antidote.

The yarns shown above will be available from 1900 this evening – so if you click on the link before then you won’t see them. Pop back at 1900 and they’ll be available to purchase.
